Yamaha YZF R6 has finally received a well-deserved makeover after a long time. However, the company choosing to unveil the bike at AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida and not at Intermot, Germany came as a surprise to many.
The new R6 is a visually very similar to its bigger sibling R1 but no one is complaining about it for sure.
As expected the 2017 R6 has been introduced with all the bells and whistle in terms of technology and features that are norms in current generation road-legal super sports models.
Starting with the styling functionality, Yamaha claims that the new R6 is the most aerodynamic motorcycle ever made by them. A good 8% more aerodynamic than the previous model, thanks to redesigned front cowl, windscreen and LED turn indicators integrated into rear view mirrors.
While the power figures (not official yet) remain somewhat same, as indicated by the company, the bike is not short of new age tech like six level Traction Control System (TCS), 3 throttle response mapping (Standard, A and B), electronic quick-shifter (accessory item) and ABS as standard.
The new lighter aluminium tank has knee recesses that allow the rider to grip his/her legs better while cornering.
The front brakes also have been upgraded to 320mm front (up by 10mm).
2017 R6 will be available in the USA from March 2017 onwards in three colours (Intensity White/Matte Silver, Matte Black and Team Yamaha Blue) and will retail at $12,199 (INR 814,000 approx.).
We really like the looks of it and hope it gets launched in India as well next year, as there lies a great opportunity for manufacturers to bring out good middle weight category super sports bikes in the country. Until then watch this amazing intro video…
